Your Next Romantic Getaway; Austin, TX

Texas State Capital

Austin, a city defined by music, good food and the Capital of Texas. I recently spent the weekend here celebrating my wedding anniversary and spending time exploring this unique robust city. Since it was our anniversary, I was looking to stay somewhere unique and quirky. I came across this adorable Bed and Breakfast, Casa Del Sol https://casadelsolbedandbreakfast.ly.com. This romantic quirky Bed and Breakfast sits on Lake Travis and is only a mere 20 minute drive from downtown Austin. The B&B is small and secluded and is super budget friendly. We opted to stay in their vintage airstream which was fully stocked, fresh organic breakfast each morning and made for romantic nights under the stars.

Since we were here for the weekend we had limited time and wanted to make the most of our trip. We spent the first day checking out the State Capital which is a must see in Austin. We headed to brunch at Taquero Mucho and I LOVED everything about this place. A friend recommend this place and just knowing it was decked out in pink had me sold! Taquero Mucho https://www.taqueromuchoaustin.com/ had great drink selections, good food and it was such a fun atmosphere; covered head to toe in pink! It’s also a great spot for photo ops, and hosting a birthday or bachelorette party. After brunch we headed to a neighborhood in Austin called SoCal or South Congress. This was a great area with lots of shopping, restaurants and boutique shops. Be prepared to dish out some money, but you’ll find some quality cowboy boots and custom hats. After exploring this neighborhood we headed back to our B&B rested and got ready for dinner at the Oasis. The Oasis on Lake Travis is a tourist spot, https://www.oasis-austin.com/ and the view of the lake is worth the overpriced mediocre food. The food is highly disappointing, but the view makes up for it and honestly that’s the only reason to go. They don’t take reservations so be prepared to wait, but there is plenty of shopping to do or you can head upstairs to get a few drinks while you wait. After dinner we ended the night back at our B&B enjoying a relaxing evening in the hot tub.

Saturday morning we were up bright and early and headed to San Antonio for the day. I’ll write about that on another blog, but we did head back in the evening and spent time at some really cool places. We stopped at Crowded Barrel Whiskey Company, https://crowdedbarrelwhiskey.com/ sat outside and enjoyed some good music on their large outdoor patio. Crowded Barrel is about 20 miles from Austin and is located in a secluded area with a beautiful view of Texas. We then headed to dinner at Salt Lick BBQ https://saltlickbbq.com/ right outside Austin in Driftwood, TX. This meal was the highlight of my foodie experience in Texas. As soon as we pulled in, I knew right away by the look of the crowd on a Sunday night, it was going to be some good BBQ! We arrived about 5:30pm and it was already a 2 hour wait. However, there is live music, plenty of outdoor seating and options for food and drink. When we were seated the service was fast, efficient and the food was a 10 out of 10! If you’re looking for good BBQ in Austin but don’t want to drive outside the city, another great place is Terry Blacks BBQ https://www.terryblacksbbq.com/. There are so many places to eat in Austin and the surrounding area that it’s hard to go wrong when finding good food in Austin.

Monday morning we headed to the famous Austin mural and being my first time in Austin, I wanted a picture by it. I’m so glad I stopped because I came across the most adorable macaroon and pastry shop and had to stop in. La Patisserie https://www.lpaustin.com/ is located right next to the Austin mural so you can’t miss it and sells some of the best macaroon’s I’ve had in the states. After coffee and pastries at La Patisserie we headed to check out Mayfield Park and Nature Preserve which really was one of my favorite activities in Austin. This park was free and has beautiful nature trails, well kept gardens and my favorite was the peacocks roaming freely in the park. It really was a beautiful park located in the heart of Austin.

There really is so much to see and do in Austin. Austin provides a variety of activities from shopping, good food, nightlife, and nature and has a little bit of everything for everyone. It’s a city full of diversity, but still keeps it’s Texas roots at the forefront.
